Frequently Asked Questions for Pet Sitters

Everything you need to know about building your pet sitting business on The Pet Sitter.

Getting Started

Sign up for free, complete your profile with your experience, services, rates, and photos, then submit it for review. Our team manually reviews every profile and you'll be notified by email when your profile goes live, usually within 24 hours.

You need genuine experience caring for pets, a suitable environment for the services you offer, and the ability to provide reliable, high-quality care. We look for complete, honest profiles with clear descriptions and quality photos.

Yes. Our Early Adopter plan is completely free. You get a full profile page, appear in search results, and can accept bookings. As we grow and add features, paid tiers will be available, but early adopters lock in their rate forever.

Pricing & Payments

Instead of taking a commission from every booking, we charge a flat monthly subscription. Our Early Adopter tier is currently free. When paid tiers launch, the Starter plan will be just €29/month. You keep 100% of every booking, regardless of how much you earn.

You set your own rates for each service you offer. You can see average rates in your area for guidance, but the final decision is entirely yours. You can update your rates at any time from your profile settings.

Pet owners pay you directly for your services. There is no payment processing through the platform, which means no processing fees and no waiting for payouts. You and the owner agree on the payment method that works best for both of you.

Managing Bookings

When pet owners contact you through the platform, you discuss their needs and dates via messaging. You can accept or decline requests based on your availability. Your calendar shows your available days so owners know when to book.

Absolutely. You are under no obligation to accept any booking request. If the dates don't work, or if you feel the pet isn't a good fit for your setup, simply let the owner know. We recommend responding to all enquiries promptly, even if declining.

Set your weekly availability in your profile settings. Toggle which days you're generally available for pet sitting. You can update this at any time. Pet owners will see your availability when viewing your profile.

Growing Your Business

Complete your profile thoroughly with detailed descriptions, quality photos of your space, and competitive rates. Respond to enquiries quickly, provide excellent care, and ask happy clients to leave reviews. The more complete and reviewed your profile, the higher you rank in search results.

Reviews are crucial for building trust and attracting new clients. After each booking, encourage the pet owner to leave a review. Profiles with more positive reviews rank higher in search results and convert more enquiries into bookings.

Your profile is tied to your primary location and neighbourhood. Pet owners searching in your area will find you. If you're willing to travel to nearby neighbourhoods, mention this in your profile bio so owners know your coverage area.

Safety

Always get the owner's vet contact details and emergency authorisation before a booking starts. In an emergency, contact the owner immediately and take the pet to the nearest vet. Document everything and keep the owner informed throughout.

We recommend all sitters carry their own pet sitting insurance to protect their business. Many professional pet sitting insurance providers offer affordable policies. Discuss insurance and liability with pet owners before accepting bookings.

Discuss potential risks and liability with pet owners before accepting a booking. Ensure you have appropriate insurance coverage. We recommend documenting the condition of your home before and after each booking. Clear communication upfront prevents most issues.
